Why Can You Consider Buying CBD Oil for Dogs in Ireland?
The effects of CBD on dogs and humans are essentially similar. By working on the body’s endocannabinoid system, cannabidiol produces almost identical benefits for people and pets. However, owing to their smaller makeup and varied biological differences, the same strengths, doses, and blends don’t work for these two groups.
CBD oils for dogs have to suit the physical requirements of your furry friends by being neither excessively strong nor too weak. When you find a power that works for your pets, you should consider buying the oil for the following reasons.
CBD oils for dogs work to regulate all of the system’s functioning, promoting homeostasis. It affects the receptors’ systems, improving functions like sleep and stress. This balance maintenance leads to an increase in your pet’s appetite.
Helps Deal with Anxiety
Studies show that dogs, like people, can suffer from issues like
By regulating the production of the “happy hormone” serotonin, CBD oil helps control the mood swings and aggression caused by these conditions. Daily dosage can lead to an overall mildness in behaviour and improved social functioning, especially around other dogs.
Helps Relieve Joint Pain
Joint problems like arthritis and dysplasia are common in dogs, especially in larger breeds approaching old age. The medicines recommended by vets to treat such symptoms can often do worse than good, and degradation of tissues and joints are common side effects of these pharmaceuticals.
As an all-natural product, CBD oil is a great alternative for these problems as they relieve pain without causing such prominent damage to the system. These oils work by binding the CB1 and CB2 receptors, controlling the immune impulse for inflammation.
Is it Legal to Buy CBD for Dogs in Ireland?
These regulations exist due to the legal recognition of THC as a narcotic substance controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act of 1977. Be it for dogs or humans, CBD is legal in Ireland as long as it contains 0.2% or less THC. However, all Irish-sourced hemp must be licensed by the Department of Health first.
Additionally, Ireland’s law on CBD oils is more convoluted owing to its European Union membership. For example, the “novel Foods” decree under the EU considers all CBD oils made by CO2 extraction and ethanol extraction unlawful. However, this decree is informal and non-binding;
Due to its prohibited psychoactive/narcotic substance tag, the Irish government allows only a maximum of 0.2% THC. In contrast, the European Court of Justice, in a recent ruling, stated that THC below 2% should not be considered a psychoactive agent, potentially clearing the way for further compound applications.
How to Choose the Best CBD Oils for Dogs in Ireland?
When choosing the best CBD oils for dogs in Ireland, it is essential to consider your pet’s size. Larger dogs naturally require large doses and more concentrated blends to treat their products. Because of this, you may have to consider getting a full or broad spectrum CBD oil over a CBD Isolate to treat your pet’s symptoms.
Most animals also react differently to terpenes than people. They may be allergic, and the substance may even induce vomiting in some cases. To avoid this, you should always try to choose oils that are proven not to cause such issues. Avoiding such potential health issues requires ingredient details usually found in a product’s Certificate of Analysis.
Always ask a CBD oil company for the THC, cannabinoid, terpene, and other compound-content analyses when choosing the best CBD oils for dogs.
Best Ways to Administer CBD Oil to Your Dog
Despite its many advantages, it may not be easy to administer CBD oils to your dogs. This issue is worsened if your pet is a naturally fussy eater. To avoid problems like this, you can try the following tips on giving CBD oils to your dog.
Sublingual administration is the quickest and most effective way to give CBD oil to your dog. This method takes minimal time, and if administered on its own, the oil has the potential to be more effective. However, your dog may not like the taste of the broad or full spectrum oil on its own so you can try the next method.
Add the appropriate amount of CBD oil drops to your dog’s treats and meals to incorporate the substance into their routine effortlessly. The flavour of the food masks the signature hempy smell leading to less fuss over appetite loss.

How Long Does it Take to Work?
The length of time it takes for CBD oil to take effect on your dog will vary depending on the dog, the health complaint and the quality of the CBD oil also. In my own experience with giving CBD to a pet dog it only took 1-2 weeks to see an improvement. This of course will vary and will also depend on how consistent you are being in administering CBD to your animal.
I have often heard from people that CBD did not work for their pets or that they saw no benefit to the product they bought. This can be down to buying a low-quality oil but more often than not it is the dosage and the consistency in supplying this dosage to your dog that is the reason it did not work.
A lot of people can be lazy or forgetful with supplements and CBD is no different. This blog highlights the importance of consistent treatment of your dog in Ireland.
I can’t stress enough how necessary it is to be consistent when you decide to start giving your dog CBD oil. The dog will then be getting a consistent supplement level as CBD will be slowly building up in their system. Giving CBD for two days and then stopping for two and starting again may happen to help with minor conditions.
But, more often than not to see real improvements a consistent dose is needed (at least for the first few weeks). Ingredients such as hemp need as much consistency as general medications to ensure they have to time to build up inside the body. Blog sites have much anecdotal evidence of CBD oil helping pets regain their normal daily function following many days of seizures. If results like this can be achieved it is certainly worth this natural shot!
How Often Do You Give CBD to Your Dog?
As mentioned above…consistency is key here! Another question frequently asked is, can I give CBD oil to my dog everyday?
The answer is yes you can. You can give your dog the CBD every day and simply stick to the same number of drops for the first while. If you feel after a few weeks that your pet needs a bit more or you want to try this out then you can increase the drops however the original dose may be enough, time will tell.
The easiest way to give your dog their CBD supplement is to add it to their food either in the morning or evening whichever suits you most. Mix the oil in so that they don’t get a strong taste in one spot of their food as this may put them off. Another option is to break a dog treat in half and drop oil into the centre of the treat so the dog can eat it quickly without noticing a taste.

Is CBD Oil for Dogs different than for Humans?
CBD oil for dogs is no different than CBD oil for humans, you will be happy to find out. The only difference is the way in which you administer the oil to the dog and the strength of the CBD oil you give them.
Dogs and other animals do not need as high a CBD concentration as humans in general however larger dogs may need higher strength oil/ higher dose than smaller dogs. Some smaller dogs with more debilitating health conditions may also need the same higher strength oil/ higher dose so it really depends on both the size of the dog and what you are treating them for.
As a general rule of thumb for dogs 2.5% (250mg) CBD oil or 5% (500mg) CBD oil is high enough in terms of oil.
5% (500mg) CBD oil could be more suitable for larger dogs or dogs with more severe symptoms in terms of pain and inflammation.
2.5% (3000mg) CBD oil is suitable for all and is a great place to start with your pet. Read on to find our more about using CBD oil for your dog and even your cat.
Are there any Side Effects for Dogs?
Generally I have not seen any side effects when administering CBD oil to my own dogs but there was one exception. I have an older dog with an itchy skin condition his whole life due to an unknown allergy.
I used CBD oil on two separate occasions to help his skin however he developed diarrhoea each time so I did not administer it any more. This dog has always had a very sensitive bowel since he was a puppy so the CBD oil did not agree with his digestive system.
Since then I have used Hemp oil topically to treat the area and this has helped. So, be mindful that CBD oil will not suit all dogs just as it may not suit all people. Fatigue, nausea, diarrhoea are other side effects noted by researchers online but as always side effects do not occur in every case.
If you are unsure about giving CBD to your pet please contact your vet.
How Much Should I Give to My Pet With Anxiety?
As with humans, anxiety in dogs does not require high strength CBD oil or in other words a high concentration of CBD. Thankfully relatively low strength CBD oil is sufficient to relieve a pet’s anxiousness. In my own experience a 2% – 5% CBD oil concentrate is enough to treat anxiety in a dog, or cat!
Of course there are other factors to consider like the severity of the anxiety and the size of the animal. The amount of CBD oil you use should always start at a low point and slowly increase if you feel necessary, regardless of the severity and size of the animal.
All dogs and cats should be given the chance to adjust to the new supplement in their diet and build CBD oil up in their system over a period of time. That is why consistency with CBD oil is key!
How About Cats?
Yes, cats can also take CBD oil…
Like humans and dogs, cats also have an Endocannabinoid system which interacts with cannabinoids. It is an easy addition to strong tasting wet food that is typically given to cats. Or even dropped over dried food too.
