Strain Review – Black Cherry Gelato

March 30, 2018 by Bentley

Happy #FreshNugFriday my friends! Last weekend, I went up north to San Francisco to test out the best cannabis they had to offer for this week’s strain review. One of my favorite strains was an Indica dominant hybrid called Black Cherry Gelato by C.R.A.F.T. Cannabis. It’s a cross between Acai and Black Cherry Funk (which is the defendant of DJ Short’s Blueberry). This is one of the most beautiful strains I’ve come across. The nugs are fluffy, drenched in trichomes and peach colored pistils. The flower is equally forest green and royal purple. It’s truly something right out of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.

When I opened the jar, my senses were met with a pleasant floral aroma. The terpenes I find most present are Pinene and Linalool. After the first hit, my palate was immersed in the sweet flavor of Pinene. As I continued, I began to get the floral aftertaste from Linalool. The flavor was subtle and understated, but the effects were not.

Black Cherry Gelato is one potent potable. Alex, I’ll take “potent potables” for $420 please. Before the session, we’d been flying and driving all day. Needless the say, I was feeling a little stressed and run down. This is when I turned to my good friend Mary Jane for a helpful hand. I rolled up a J of Black Cherry Gelato and the session began. Almost instantly, all my stress began to melt away. My muscle tension soon followed. As the session progressed, a powerful sense of euphoria washed over me and great conversation ensued. Unlike most Indicas, I wasn’t couch locked and was able to remain productive. However, I was in a state of complete relaxation. It’s a very well balanced strain for someone like myself. I suffer from severe anxiety and an Indica dominant hybrid brings me back to a comfortable baseline. If you are looking for a relaxing weekend, I highly recommend Black Cherry Gelato!

Black Cherry Gelato by the Backpack Boyz and 5 Points Exotic Strain Review

Background

After recently sampling the strain Italian Ice by The Backpack Boyz and 5 Points, I was eager to explore other flavors by them. Cana Harbor recently dropped some Black Cherry Gelato by The Backpack Boyz and 5 Points, so I shot through and picked some up.

I have been having good experiences at Cana Harbor for the most part. They have a very good selection of top-shelf cannabis and reasonable prices with worthwhile specials.

The Backpack Boyz and 5 Points have been taking the scene by storm for quite some time with Mad Flavors. Some of the more recent flavors I have seen around include Banana Pound Cake, Blue Tommyz, Tommyz, Zparkiez, Horchata, and the Garrison Lane collab Pemmex.

Genetics

Black Cherry Gelato is the cross of the strains Black Cherry Funk and Acai Berry Gelato 49. Black Cherry Funk is the cross of DJ Short’s Blueberry with Black Cherry Soda. While Acai Berry Gelato 49 is the cross of Pink Panties and Sunset Sherbert.

Now, all that genetic history sounds delicious to me. Moreover, there are definitely some strains there I missed a couple of years ago when there were more predominant like Black Cherry Funk and Black Cherry Soda. I recently reviewed Sherbinskis’ Acai Berry Gelato 49 which I loved, I will link the review below.

Appearance

The leaves of Black Cherry Gelato colas are a mix of purple and green hues. However, I found it hard to see the leaves underneath the layers of resinous trichome crystals and tiny white hairs. There was also a fair amount of orange hairs balancing out the purple and green tones.

Aroma

While digging into the scent, I really got lost in the nose of the flowers. I found that the aroma has a very forward sweet-tart cherry nose complemented by delicate earthy and herbal notes.

The Inhale

Above all, I love the flavor profile of the inhale. It begins with a smooth sweet-tart black cherry flavor profile soon after followed by floral earthy notes hitting the back of your throat. I found the initial taste to be very similar to biting into a black cherry.

The Exhale

Subsequently, one thing I always look for in a top-shelf strain is a very smooth smoking flower that burns to a clean white ash. I found the smoothness I seek to be very present in the Black Cherry Gelato Strain. That same smoothness I saw in the inhale continued through the exhale with the addition of some very pleasant tropical, herbal, and earthy notes.

The High

The high was an extremely enjoyable experience for me. I found it to be very relaxing while not too heavy, a very clean high. These are the kind of flowers I can smoke all day long. So I would say the happy uplifting high is perfect for a lazy Saturday during a pandemic.

So was it worth the money and would I buy it again?

Yes. I literally can’t get enough of The Backpack Boyz and 5 Points Flowers. They are consistently cultivating and curating the top of the top-shelf clean green exotic flowers.

Where can it be found?

I got mine from Cana Harbor for $60 an eighth however you can also purchase them at Cookies and Dr. Greenthumb locations.
