A Delicious Treat

Cake Pop

Today I’m looking at a newer strain around the city, provided by Veritas Fine Cannabis via Groundswell Cannabis Boutique in Denver, CO. I have found myself in love with any cookie-related genetics, starting with Thin Mint GSC to the ever popular Wedding Cake, of which is basically half of this cross. We’re going to begin with a great cross that has strong relation’s but carries her flow in a much different manner. Now to enjoy some Cake Pop!

Lineage – Birthday Cake x Stardawg

Note: Birthday Cake is likely a phenotype of Wedding Cake which is a…we’ll get to that another time.

Common Terpenes – beta-Caryophyllene, Myrcene, Limonene

Note: Terpene data provided by Veritas Fine Cannabis

Aroma – This cut is very sweet and dough forward, while heavy gasoline hits you on the back end. An overtone that can only be described as sweet, slightly minty citronella adds a nice complex layer over the top. I noticed something very unique with this strain and it’s aroma; when broken apart the scents appear to go in the exact opposite order. Starting with heavy gas, then lighter dough and sweet cake, and followed by that back end of citronella-esque minty uniqueness. The terpenes here are prevalent and complex.

    SCORE – 89

Flavor – Sweet dough inhale with a gas-fueled exhale. There are also notes of citrus, pungent musky earth, and kush that linger on the tongue for a long while. I should note that I speak about the flavor (and aroma!) of “kush” often. I say this because it’s difficult to describe what kush tastes like. You need to experience it for yourself and you will never forget.

    SCORE – 85

Visuals – Dense, round, and almost spade shaped buds are brought to life with very solid trichome coverage. Beautiful bright orange pistils wrap around bracts that are a variety of mixed bright greens and violet to deep purple hues. Very pretty flower showing off it’s cookie traits quite a bit.

    SCORE – 84

Effects – A quick cerebral onset occurs after your first hit. This cut has a very unique head feel to it overall. With this said, this is definitely a indica-dominant strain that simply tantalizes your brain more than anything else. The body effects are of mild sedation throughout the body with mild lethargy attached if at all. Pain is only reduced about 25% compared to more body oriented heavy indica strains. This cut loves playing inside and literally around your head.

While my creativity was sparking I couldn’t help but notice a feeling similar to the strain known as Headband. It is a very unique tingly sensation that started to envelop the top of my head to the base of my neck. From there it wrapped around the jawline and began to settle prominently. Instead of wearing a “headband” it started to feel as if I were wearing a hockey mask, straps and all. It’s very cool to notice this type of odd and strong effect, and only adds to the fantastic lift this cut provides.

Let’s speak more to what this strain feels like inside of your noggin, eh? Stardawg seems to almost take over in effects with a very balanced high. You notice sativa-like energy but the indica side takes over and relaxes them all to a chill vibe that is nothing short of enjoyable and highly euphoric. When I say euphoric, I’m not messing around here. After completing my designated “dose”, about .4 grams, I was so happy I had a grin from ear to ear that I couldn’t escape.

This is when you start to feel the Birthday Cake and Stardawg working in a beautiful tandem. I felt as if I could paint a mural, play a video game, walk around the local park, enjoy some Tool circa 1996, and have a good one on one chat all at the same time. But, let’s be honest and real, that is unrealistic. Instead I decided to keep writing and enjoy Tool’s beautiful complexity in their music. This cut provides a unique focused but “stoned to the bone” effect that could be perceived as overwhelming to some indica afghanica lovers. As long as you don’t over indulge on this cut, you will have one of the most fun rides a strain with indica dominance can provide.

Socialization in general is also very enjoyable and laid back. With that said, as focused as this strain can make you, you can lose track of thoughts within seconds and just delve into laughing fits. I only noticed this after riding along this strong peak for an easy 50+ minutes. That’s a long ride, folks. Then came the intense munchies! This is a fantastic appetite stimulant if you give it a bit of time. I’ll be looking for more cuts of this cross for sure. This is different.

    SCORE – 95

  • Possible Medical Uses (no effect on score) – Appetite Stimulation, Stress Relief, Mild Analgesic
  • Negatives (no effect on score)- Not too many to be found here except a few mild warnings. If you are a lover of HEAVY indicas that plaster you to the floor, this one isn’t quite for you if I had a say so. It is very balanced in it’s effects. Over-indulgence could easily cause anxiety and paranoia. Pronounced dry eyes were noted as well.

Overall Thoughts and Final Score

I’m in love with this strain that is fairly new to the market here and Veritas’ cut is exceptional. From the head-buzzing effects to the profound creativity, it’s not simple for someone who only indulges in indica afghanica’s and indica dominant hybrids to explain the sense of chill relaxation that comes along with this journey. If you’re looking to go for the quick knockout, you might not find it here but you will spark something inside you that makes you feel giddy, happy, extremely euphoric, and creative! Make sure you have munchies on hand because the appetite stimulation does come on strong at the tail end of this high. From the intense beginning until the final, gentle release; this cut of Cake Pop stays strong due to her lineage and strength in grow capabilities by Veritas. I’ll note here and below that this flower was provided by Groundswell Cannabis Boutique here in Denver since Veritas only sells their flower via wholesale to my knowledge. Groundswell has been doing great lately with their wholesale flower offerings and Veritas almost always knocks it out of the park, a great combo indeed.

I give their cut of Cake Pop a final score of: 89 of 100
